- We never ask for your real name, and we never show your email. Drivers appear only by the handle they choose.
- Your individual ratings are never shown with your handle. They're combined into each carrier's score.
- We don't sell your information or share it with carriers, recruiters or advertisers.
- If anyone legally demands to know who you are, we push back, and we tell you first whenever the law allows, so you can challenge it.
- You can ask for a copy of your data, a correction, or account deletion any time: .
1. Who we are and what this covers
This policy explains what information RateCarriers ("we," "us") collects on RateCarriers.com, how we use it, and the choices you have. It applies to everyone who visits the Site, whether or not you have an account. It works together with our Terms.
2. What we collect
When you create an account
- Your driver handle, email address and password. Passwords are stored scrambled (hashed), so we can't read them.
- If you answer our one-time welcome question: whether you're new to trucking, or represent a carrier.
When you use the Site while signed in
- Your carrier ratings (1–10 in each category) and the date you rated.
- Your answers to carrier questions (for example, pay type, home time, equipment).
- Comments and replies you post, your upvotes, and the carriers you follow.
- Reports you send about a carrier listing.
When you contact us
- The name (optional), email address, topic and message you send through our contact form, or by email.
Automatically, when anyone visits
- Basic technical information your browser sends, such as IP address, browser and device type, pages visited and the page that referred you. Our hosting provider keeps standard server logs, and Google Analytics measures visits (see section 5).
- When you sign up, a scrambled (hashed) version of your IP address is kept for one hour to stop mass sign-ups.
3. What other people can see
- Public: your handle, when you joined, your comments and replies, the carriers you've commented on, and your upvote counts. Your public profile is at your handle's profile page.
- Never public: your email address, your password, which carriers you follow, and your individual ratings and answers.
- Combined: your ratings are averaged into each carrier's score, and your answers are shown only as overall percentages. If you're the first or only driver to rate a carrier or answer its questions, those results will reflect your input alone until others add theirs.
- Carriers never receive your email address or account details from us.
4. How we use information
- To run the Site: your account, ratings, scores, comments, follows and profile.
- To keep it trustworthy: preventing fake ratings, duplicate accounts, spam and abuse, and enforcing our Terms and Guidelines.
- To contact you about your account, such as password resets or replies to your messages. If we add optional emails (like alerts for carriers you follow), you'll choose to turn them on and can turn them off.
- To understand how the Site is used and improve it, mostly through combined statistics.
- To meet legal obligations and protect people's safety.
5. Cookies, analytics and Do Not Track
- Sign-in cookies: WordPress sets cookies to keep you signed in. They're removed when you sign out.
- Google Analytics: we use Google Analytics to count visits and see which pages are used. It sets cookies (such as
_ga) and Google may collect information about your visits over time and across other websites. You can opt out with Google's opt-out browser add-on or by blocking cookies in your browser. - Dark mode: if you switch themes, your choice is saved in your own browser only.
- Do Not Track: the Site doesn't currently change its behavior when your browser sends a Do Not Track signal.
6. Who we share information with
We don't sell your personal information, and we don't share it for advertising. We share information only in these cases:
- Service providers that run the Site for us: our web host (Hostinger), Google (Analytics, website fonts and our email inbox), and the services that deliver map code and map images (unpkg.com and OpenStreetMap). Your browser connects to some of these directly when it loads a page, which shares your IP address with them.
- Legal requests: only when we're legally required, as described in the next section.
- Safety: when we believe in good faith it's needed to prevent serious harm or respond to an emergency.
- If RateCarriers changes hands: if the Site is sold or merged, information may transfer to the new owner, who must keep honoring this policy's promises for information collected under it.
7. If someone tries to unmask a driver
Drivers worry about retaliation, and that's why RateCarriers exists. If a company, lawyer, or government agency asks us to identify a driver or hand over account information:
- We won't share anything without valid legal process, like a subpoena or court order, and we'll push back on requests that are overly broad or improper.
- We'll notify the affected driver by email before responding, and wait at least 14 days so they can get legal help and challenge it, unless the law or a court order forbids notice, or there's an emergency involving a risk of serious harm.
- We share only what the order requires. Since we don't collect real names, that is usually limited to an email address and basic technical records.
8. How long we keep information
- Account information is kept while your account is open.
- Contact messages are kept as long as needed to handle your request and keep a record of it.
- Server logs and analytics data are kept for the limited periods our providers use.
- We may keep a copy of removed content or closed accounts when needed for legal reasons, to handle disputes, or to stop repeat abuse.
9. Your choices and rights
Email from your account's email address to:
- Get a copy of the personal information we have about you.
- Correct information that's wrong.
- Delete your account. We delete your account, email address, comments and follows. Your ratings and answers stay in carrier scores and statistics, but are permanently disconnected from your account and handle, so they can no longer be linked to you.
We'll respond within 30 days. Depending on where you live (for example, California, Colorado or Virginia), you may have additional privacy rights; we honor these requests for every user regardless of location. We won't treat you differently for making a request.
10. How we protect information
The Site uses encrypted connections (HTTPS), passwords are stored hashed, and only site administrators can access account information. No website can promise perfect security, so please use a unique password and tell us right away if you notice anything suspicious.
11. Children
RateCarriers is for adults. You must be 18 or older to create an account, and we don't knowingly collect information from anyone under 13. If you believe a child has given us information, email and we'll delete it.
12. Changes to this policy
We'll update the date at the top whenever this policy changes. If a change is significant, we'll post a notice on the Site and may email account holders before it takes effect.
13. Contact us
